I started thinking after I'd typed that last night that Zirkle was on that 93-94 team. I was for some reason thinking that Witt was the qb then and Zirkle took over at qb more toward the 95-96 seasons.

started most of 88 i think, then both 89 & 90 state champ teams

His 1st start was at Clintwood in 88..and then he started til he graduated.

We were ranked No. 1 in the state when we went to Garden. We took those little short buses to Garden. God that was a long drive on those buses. We seriously took Garden too lightly in my opinion and got our asses handed to us. They ran a 4 4 stack and it seemed like there was 30 people on the field. Red Street I think was the guys name that killed us that day. We played at Garden because it was their turn to host. That was before the power points and all.

Zirkle was a helluva player, I personally thought he was better on defense than offense, I know he was the starting QB in 93, then 94 the first year of Thomas Jones starting at TB he moved to WR, got a quick story for you guys, 94 Zirkle was playing WR caught a pass and Matt Johnson ( ILB for GC and one of the hardest hitters I ever played with including Jake Houseright ) hit Zirkle and no lie I thought he would never get up, you can see on the film his helmet flew off and his ear pads flying out of his helmet, well he didn't as much as lay on the ground a second, he popped right up and jogged back to the huddle. I'm still impressed by that today! lol

Matt was a hoss. I played baseball against his little brother Andy and work with Jason. I remember seeing Matt lay a few licks at GC games I saw while he played.

he was a great ILB, little known fact his nickname was Wimpie, go figure. Andy was a good little player too, he was a freshman when I was a Sr., he didn't play his Sr. year to focus on baseball. They're good people.
On a different note last time I heard anything about Travis Clark he was going to try out for an Arena League team, did anything ever come of that?
And did Justin Hamilton sign with anybody?
Sorry to highjack my own thread.

Justin is back with the Skins currently, not sure how long that will last.
